Church Profile: Exchange Church Norwich
Exchange Church in Norwich is a newly formed Elim Pentecostal church led by Sam Mooney. The church meets on Sundays at The Chapel on Wessex Street for worship, Scripture study, prayer, and encountering the Holy Spirit. They also emphasize the importance of fellowship, with plans to have meals together to build deeper connections within the church community. The vision for Exchange Church came about as a result of Sam and his wife Dree’s return to Norfolk in 2019 with a sense of unfinished business, feeling called to reach out to those living in addiction and brokenness.
The main focus of Exchange Church is simplicity, with a commitment to Jesus-centered teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer based on Acts 2:42. They aim to offer a welcoming and inclusive environment for hurting people, including believers and non-believers, to exchange their brokenness for wholeness. The church is grateful for their current base at The Chapel, which belongs to St Stephen’s church, and they have plans to reach out to those caught up in addiction and prostitution by offering a 24/7 place of refuge and support for rehabilitation programs.
Looking towards the future, Exchange Church hopes to expand their reach and impact by moving to a more central location in the city to be closer to those in need. Sam, who has experience working with rehab organization Teen Challenge, wants to see people find Christ, enter into rehab programs, and be supported by the church community as they are restored and find their place in society. The church’s ultimate goal is to see individuals come to faith, be transformed, and find a sense of belonging within the wider community.
