Summer outreach for Norwich students
Friends International Norwich is offering a series of events in August as part of their summer outreach program for international students. The Norwich International Summer Outreach (NISO) will take place from August 12-18 at the UEA Faith Centre, featuring daily outdoor activities and evening gatherings at a local café. These events aim to provide support and a sense of community for international students who are adjusting to life in Norwich and the UK. The activities are open to students of all faiths and backgrounds, with the goal of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone.
Raquel Medina, the Team leader of Friends International Norwich, highlights the challenges that international students face when moving to a new country. From adjusting to a new language and culture to navigating the education system, making friends can be a significant challenge. NISO aims to provide international students with the opportunity to meet new people, experience local culture, and hear about the Christian faith in a welcoming and engaging environment. The events, which include activities such as a history scavenger hunt, river canoeing, and a garden party, are designed to help students have the best possible experience during their time in the UK.
Friends International is a Christian charity that focuses on building friendships and sharing faith with international students in the UK and Ireland. Their volunteers, who come from various local churches, work together in international missions to provide support and opportunities for international students. The organization hopes to not only offer a great experience for international students during their time in the UK, but also inspire them to make positive changes in their own countries. Some students who participate in Friends International activities go on to volunteer and welcome international students in their home countries, creating a ripple effect of kindness and support.
