Rollercoaster ride for Yarmouth parish charity

Paul Hubbard, a volunteer at the Pathway Café in Great Yarmouth, made headlines when he spent an entire day riding on a rollercoaster at Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach to raise money for the charity. The event took place on July 2, with Paul embarking on his first ride at 12 noon and continuing until the park closed at 5pm. In total, Paul completed 54 rides on the wooden rollercoaster, which dates back to 1928 and is one of only two remaining wooden rollercoasters in the UK. The incredible feat raised over £400 for the Pathway Café, a charity that provides hot meals, support, and crisis food parcels to local people in need.

The Pathway Café and Support Centre, located in the Minster Mission building, was established in 2014 by the Parish of Great Yarmouth and recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. The charity relies on donations of money, volunteer assistance, and gifts of essential items to continue its vital work in the community. Those interested in supporting the Pathway Café can donate funds through a dedicated JustGiving page and can also volunteer their time or offer food donations. The charity is actively seeking trustees to join their existing team and help drive their mission forward. Information on becoming a trustee for the charity can be found on their website.

Paul Hubbard’s fundraising efforts on the rollercoaster not only garnered much-needed funds for the Pathway Café but also raised awareness about the charity’s work in providing meals and support to individuals in Great Yarmouth. The rollercoaster challenge saw Paul complete an impressive 37 miles worth of track over the course of the day, showcasing his dedication to the cause. Supporters can still contribute to Paul’s fundraising total through the JustGiving page, with all proceeds going towards supporting the Pathway Café’s initiatives in the local community.

The success of Paul Hubbard’s rollercoaster fundraiser demonstrates the creativity and commitment of volunteers in supporting charitable causes. By engaging in unique and challenging activities, volunteers like Paul can raise funds and awareness for organizations like the Pathway Café, which play a vital role in addressing food insecurity and providing support to vulnerable individuals. The generosity of donors, volunteers, and supporters is essential in ensuring the sustainability and impact of charities like the Pathway Café, as they continue to serve those in need and make a positive difference in their communities.
