East Anglia Bishop celebrates 40 years’ as a priest 

The Catholic Bishop of East Anglia, Rt Rev Peter Collins, celebrated the 40th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood by leading Mass at St John the Baptist Cathedral in Norwich. The celebration was attended by a large congregation and included the St John’s Cathedral choir, as well as choirs from the Diocese of Leeds and St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School. Bishop Peter was ordained in 1984 for the Archdiocese of Cardiff after studying in Spain. Throughout his career, he has served in various roles including as Parish Priest and Dean before becoming Bishop of East Anglia in 2022.

During the 40th anniversary celebration, Cathedral Dean Fr Alan Hodgson commended Bishop Peter for his dedicated service in the ministry over the past four decades. Bishop Peter expressed his gratitude for the warm wishes and memories of his time in the priesthood. The event was a meaningful occasion for both Bishop Peter and the community, with choir performances adding to the atmosphere. The Bishop’s journey from Wales to East Anglia was acknowledged as a testament to his commitment to his faith and vocation.

Bishop Peter’s career has been marked by positions as an Assistant Priest, Parish Priest, and Dean before assuming his role as Bishop of East Anglia in 2022. His ordination ceremony took place at St John the Baptist Cathedral in Norwich, where his predecessor Bishop Alan Hopes conducted the ceremony. Throughout his years of service, Bishop Peter has touched the lives of many through his ministry and leadership.
