Two young families from St. Benet’s Minster in Beccles embarked on a challenging journey to climb to the summit of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles, in order to raise funds for a charity that helps suffering Christians. Eight members of the Do Rozario and Pampackal families, including a seven-year-old child, successfully completed the climb despite harsh weather conditions and raised over £1,800 from 60 supporters.
The fundraising initiative was part of Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN)’s #TeamRed matched £500k challenge, which aimed to raise a total of £3,600. Inspired by a Mass appeal for ACN by a fellow parishioner, the families were motivated to take on the challenge to support Christian communities in need. Despite facing cold temperatures, rain, and strong winds during the climb, the group remained determined and driven by a sense of purpose to complete the ascent.
The challenging climb to the summit of Ben Nevis tested the endurance and faith of the families, but their shared mission to support those in need provided them with the strength to persevere. The descent was equally difficult due to rocky terrain, rain, and biting winds, but the sense of accomplishment and shared purpose kept their spirits high. The families expressed gratitude for the prayers and support that helped them through the tough journey and expressed their commitment to continue supporting ACN’s mission.
The families chose to support ACN after learning about the situations in Nigeria and India, which deeply touched them. They were moved by the need to help those facing persecution and challenges in these regions and found a meaningful mission in supporting ACN’s work. As part of ACN’s #TeamRed matched £500k challenge, funds raised up to a minimum of £200k will be doubled, thanks to pledges by some of the charity’s top benefactors. The families look forward to continuing their mission to help those in need through ACN and are proud of their accomplishment in conquering Ben Nevis for a greater cause.
