Norwich City: Colin Calderwood joins Russell Martin
Colin Calderwood has been appointed as a first-team coach at St. Mary’s under manager Russell Martin. Calderwood previously worked with Martin during their time at Norwich City, where Calderwood served as assistant manager to Chris Hughton. The pair achieved Norwich’s highest league finish in two decades before their eventual relegation.
Following his time at Norwich, Calderwood went on to work as an assistant manager at Brighton, Aston Villa, Blackpool, and Northampton Town. He also had a brief stint as the manager of Cambridge United. Southampton Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, expressed his delight at Calderwood’s appointment, praising his wealth of experience and believing it will benefit the squad.
Southampton currently sits in fourth place in the Championship table and has remained unbeaten in their last six games. They are trailing third-placed Norwich, who are managed by former Canaries boss Daniel Farke, by just a single point. Ipswich Town currently holds the second spot in the table, with ten more points than Southampton.
In August, Martin’s Southampton faced off against David Wagner’s team, managing to salvage a 4-4 draw with a late comeback. This result showcased the resilience and fighting spirit of Martin’s side. With the addition of Calderwood to the coaching staff, Southampton’s backroom team looks stronger than ever, and they will be hoping to maintain their impressive form and continue climbing up the Championship table.
