Bristol City v Norwich City: David Wagner Championship preview

Daniel Farke – In the middle of disappointments, the Canaries boss has found himself facing the wrath of frustrated fans once more after a heartbreaking 3-2 loss at Watford. This defeat saw his side squander a two-goal lead, which did not sit well with the supporters. Among the 1,300 fans in the audience at Vicarage Road, were heard vocal chants calling for the German’s dismissal and unfavourable comparisons to Daniel Farke. Norwich is trying to prevent a 10th league defeat in 15 Championship matches when they head to Ashton Gate, with Wagner’s future once again a significant topic of discussion among supporters.

The Midweek defeat shifted the anticipated mood after two successive victories against Cardiff and QPR. Wagner’s future is again the subject of conversation for supporters, with new sporting director Ben Knapper continuing his assessment. Between the second goal and Watford’s winner, Norwich had only two shots on goal compared to the host’s 21. The lack of control sparked criticism from fans while Knapper watched on at how Norwich capitulated against Watford.

Liam Manning has succeeded Nigel Pearson at Ashton Gate, and has since recorded one win, one draw, and one loss in his first three games. Manning, an ex-Norwich academy player, and Norfolk born coach are trying to shift the style of play at Bristol City. Wagner knows his team will have to be at their best to record a desperately required result. Overall, Wagner has vowed to continue fighting and recognises that it all depends on the actions and performance of the team on the field.

David Wagner believes that the lack of control and ball possession against Watford was the team’s biggest problem, which led to their defeat. He emphasised that the team needs to be much braver and comfortable with much more quality with regards to ball possession. Wagner is optimistic about their next game against Bristol and that they have the potential to perform well and get a good result, but only if they improve their performance and prevent making costly mistakes that lead to conceding goals.
