Network Norfolk : Sheringham church’s fundraising celebrations

Sheringham Salvation Army will be raising money for the organisation’s UK social work with two special events this month. Tony Rothe reports.

Cawston Band will present ‘In the 40’s Spirit’ at 7pm on Saturday 17 September, which coincides with the North Norfolk Railway’s 1940’s weekend. Formed in 1886, Cawston Band is regarded as Norfolk’s premier brass band, as it is currently the East Anglian Brass Band Associations reigning Champion Band and is well established in the 1st Section nationally.

There is no charge for the concert, but there will be a retiring offering for the Big Collection, which supports Salvation Army Social Services in the UK. Visit salvationarmy.org.uk/big-collection .

On Sunday 25 September the church will hold its annual Harvest Festival, with worship at 11.00am and Harvest Festival Praise at 4.00pm, including music from Sheringham Salvation Band and Songsters, followed by afternoon tea. Entry is free but, again, there will be a retiring offering for the Big Collection.

All events will take place at the Salvation Army centre, Cremer Street, Sheringham, NR26 8DZ.

The Big Collection is the Salvation Army’s annual fundraising appeal, which raises money to support social and community programmes to support people who are vulnerable or marginalised across the UK, and provides care for those experiencing homelessness, survivors of modern slavery, the elderly, those facing financial crises, and more. The main fund-raising effort takes place in September each year.
