Beach party outreach packs Sheringham church
Lighthouse Community Church in Sheringham was packed with children and young people last Friday as the annual BeachLife indoor beach party got underway. Tony Rothe reports.
Around 140 children along with many of their parents were there during the afternoon, for a time of beach games, challenges, crafts and ice cream. For many, the highlight was the huge inflatable “Whack – a – mole” game.
The theme of the afternoon was Thankfulness, and Methodist minister Sharon Thraves reminded the children why being thankful is so important, while two leaders competed with two of the children in compiling and eating a sandwich with a bizarre combination of fillings!
The evening session was aimed at teenagers, with more games, challenges and ice cream, following the eight litres of ice cream consumed that afternoon! Connor Winston shared his thoughts about how having a thankful heart can help to combat anxiety and contribute to a more fulfilling life.
Peter Skivington, who leads the BeachLife organising team, said “It was great to see Lighthouse packed with children and young people coming together and having a great time. It’s clear that we were meeting a need for such an event at the end of the winter half term.”
The BeachLife main summer activity week will take place from Tuesday 29 August to Friday 1 September based around the Leas on Sheringham clifftop.
