Norfolk estates shutting due to high winds weather warning

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Saturday, July 15 from 9am until midnight and it covers southern England, including the whole of Norfolk and Suffolk, and south Wales. 

An “unseasonably windy day is likely on Saturday” and there could be delays on the roads and railways.

Short-term power cuts are also possible and coastal communities will likely be affected by spray and large waves.

Some events taking place on Saturday have been cancelled or postponed, as the high winds could cause damage to trees or temporary structures such as marquees and inflatables. 

This includes the Summer Garden Party at The Kings Head in Letheringsett, which was due to take place on Friday evening and all day Saturday.

It was set to include live music, garden games and a bouncy castle, with the event postponed and a new date to be announced. 

Elsewhere, WNDA Children and Young People’s Services, a deaf-friendly youth club, has cancelled its Saturday beach day out in Old Hunstanton.

Some National Trust estates in Norfolk will also shut for the day and announced so far are Sheringham Park, the Blickling Estate and Felbrigg Hall.

In Great Yarmouth, an Ormiston Families event, Festival of Wellbeing, was due to take place on Saturday but it has also been cancelled due to the forecasted bad weather.

A spokesman for Ormiston Families, event organisers, said: “We’re very disappointed to have to cancel Saturday’s event due to concerns over the weather.

“We apologise to anyone who was planning to come along.”

The Magic of Thailand Festival in Earlham Park with street food and entertainment has been cancelled on Saturday. The organisers will give an update on Sunday’s event by 2pm on Saturday.
